Zoe Saldana Shrugs Off Nina Simone Backlash

In a pre-Oscars interview with HipHollywood, Zoe Saldana responded to the backlash that resulted when she took the role of Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic Nina, replacing R&B star Mary J. Blige. 

"What keeps me focused and what kept me from getting stressed from being hurt by the comments is I'm doing it for my sisters, I'm doing it for my brothers, and I don't care who tells me I am not this and I am not that," the Star Trek actress said. "I know who I am, and I know what Nina Simone means to me." You can check out the full interview below.

Saldana's casting was met with criticism as many took issue with the fact that she wasn't a singer, doesn't claim to be African-American and doesn't resemble Simone. 

Still, Saldana maintained that regardless of the response to the film, positive or negative, she would keep her chin up. "That's who I am and that's who I'll be – and Nina was like that too," she said. "I did it out of love: Out of love for Nina, out of love for my people and who I am, and my pride of being a black woman and a Latina woman and an American woman." 

 Nina reportedly began production in Los Angeles back in October. The film was written by Cynthia Mort, who's also attached to direct.

So Dave Chappelle & Chris Rock Were On Stage Together Last Night....

Over the past week, Dave Chappelle has spent several late nights of his most recent trip to New York City dropping in at the Comedy Cellar to work the crowd and work out new comedic material.

Over the past few months, Chris Rock has done likewise, albeit more methodically on the mechanics of a specific new hour-plus of stand-up.

Early Wednesday morning, they performed together. Onstage. At the same time. This was not a dream. This was not a drill. This was real. Rock and Chappelle, onstage together. Riffing off of each other. It was the first episode of a podcast you may never hear. Or the first stop on a fantasy stand-up comedy tour -- a tour that very well might happen sometime later in 2013, if the two comedians could put their business heads and their schedules together. Which they actually began to do onstage right in front of the unsuspecting audience last night at the Cellar.

"Come out to Oakland," Chappelle told Rock.

"You should come down to West Palm," Rock replied.

Chappelle: "After next Tuesday, I'm free for like 11 years."

Rock said he has a new movie of his own he's going to film later this spring, and would be cutting it over the summer. "I've got time between now and the movie," Rock told Chappelle onstage. "By Halloween, I could do dates."

This all took place over the course of a couple of hours after midnight. After the final scheduled act on Tuesday's double bill at the Cellar, host William Stephenson beckoned for the audience to remain seated, apologizing briefly for having told them the show would be over, then quickly adding he had a good excuse to change course. Stephenson then introduced Chappelle, who performed solo for 40-45 minutes. Just as Chappelle was thanking the audience and preparing to leave, Rock hopped onstage, too, still clad in his hat and jacket.

"Aw, you lucky mother fu@&3rs." Rock told them.

For the next hour, the two comedic icons just riffed. On the Oscars and Seth MacFarlane's performance as host. On Kevin Hart showing up at the Cellar the other night, and his two sold-out concerts last fall at Madison Square Garden. On Prince, who's supposed to be in the city this coming weekend. On Jay-Z and President Barack Obama, and the sights and sounds of a $20,000-per-plate Obama fund-raiser last year at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club. On passing on the chance to open for Jay-Z during his sold-out concert run at Barclays Arena in Brooklyn. "I had no material!" Rock demurred. "Neither do I!" Chappelle countered. They joked about eating fast food. And on the prospect of calling up another famous friend for a late-late-night outing to eat spaghetti. Just because it'd be funny to Chappelle to have strangers see a group of famous men (married with children), out late together doing something completely normal and boring. Chappelle convinced Rock to text Jay-Z at around 1:30 a.m. After a lack of a reply, they called Arsenio Hall and left a voice-mail message; then later the same for Lenny Kravitz.

"This could be the show," Chappelle said. "Fireside chats with Chris Rock."

"I'm in," Rock replied.

So are we.

Rock joked that he needs time to prepare for an actual tour, stand-up or otherwise, before committing. "Dave's like, let's just do it Wednesday. Unannounced!" he said.

Just when they were saying goodbye to the audience and reminding them to tip their waiters and waitresses, Marlon Wayans rolled into the club. They brought him onstage for about 15 minutes of an ad-hoc interview. Then Rock left for home, bringing a DVD of the club's recording to show his wife why he was out so late on a Tuesday night. "I've got proof," he told The Comic's Comic before leaving.

Wayans hopped back offstage.

At 2:50 a.m., Chappelle remained once again a solo act. He jokingly bragged he remained standing so he could be the last comedian onstage. "Well, that happened," he said.

And it could happen again later this year.

Spring Breakers' Gets Another Crazy Fun Poster

 In Spring Breakers, Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine) & Faith (Selena Gomez) have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper "Alien" promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. Harmony Korine (of low key indie films like Trash Humpers and Mister Lonely) wrote and directed Spring Breakers, which premiered at TIFF 2012 and the Venice Film Festival. A24 Pictures will release Korine's Spring Breakers limited in NY & LA starting on March 15th next month.

Quvenzhané Wallis Officially Cast as Annie in Will Smith Adaptation

"The sun'll come out tomorrow!" The youngest Academy Awards Best Actress nominee ever has confirmed her next starring role. Sony Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment have chosen this fine Oscar Sunday to officially announce that Quvenzhané Wallis will be starring in their new take onAnnie, adapted from the musical which first hit Broadway in 1977. Wallis, the star of Best Picture nomBeasts of the Southern Wild, is now 9-years-old and has been touring around this past awards season, which culminates in her big night at the Oscars. Whether she wins or not, she's a charming, bright young star who has many roles ahead.

This new take on Annie is being directed by Will Gluck (of Fired Up, Easy A, Friends with Benefits) from a screenplay written by Emma Thompson and rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna. It's produced by James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith at Overbrook Entertainment, and by Shawn "Jay Z" Carter, Jay Brown, and Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith through Marcy Media. Gluck is currently revising the film's screenplay. Hannah Minghella, President of Production for Columbia/Sony Pictures, states: "With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star. She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her."

At the moment, they state Annie will be released during the winter holiday season in 2014. Quvenzhane (pronounced kwa-venn-zha-nay) Wallis is the only individual officially cast so far, but it makes sense that they would star with the lead Annie before building the rest of the cast around her. Plus, Wallis is going to attract so many talented people because she is so charismatic. We'll be keeping an eye on this adaptation of the musical about an orphan's adventures to find the perfect family, and on Wallis' acting career from here.

In a rare interview with UK's The Mirror, the "Turn Up The Music" singer opens up about Rihanna, revealing:

“That night was the deepest regret of my life, the biggest mistake. "But she loves me – what can I say? I’m forgiven… but, yes, I worked hard for it.” 

Chris also explains that it's normal to fight with the one you love, but for him things spiraled out of control. Chris seems like he's grown a lot, even admitting that he's taken a lot of things for granted in the past. 

“I’ve learned a lot since that night and I’ve grown up. I was very young and I took a lot of stuff, fame, for granted. I didn’t understand it. The support from those who do know me and the fans, who are incredible, got me through.”

Ravens' Jacoby Jones will be on 'Dancing With The Stars'

Jacoby Jones danced in several NFL end zones this season as he went from unheralded free agent pickup to one of the heroes of the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month.

He'll now take his dance moves to another stage, and this time, they'll be judged.

The wide receiver and Pro Bowl return man was unveiled by ABC tonight as one of the contestants on 'Dancing With the Stars.' The rest of the cast will be announced Tuesday on Good Morning America. Season 16 of the show will debut on March 18 on ABC.

For any job searcher, there is nothing quite as sweet as landing a job in a tough economy.

For one specific job searcher, Nick Begley, of New York, the sweetness was in how he landed the job.

(Courtesy: Nick Begley)Begley, 32, used the label of a candy bar to sell himself to potential employers, crafting his resume onto a "Resume Bar."

Using the tagline, "Credentials that will satisfy any organization's appetite,"Begley sold himself on the bar as an "experienced marketing professional" with a serving size of "1 career." Instead of calories the bar listed his education level, MBA, and instead of vitamin counts, the bar's label touted Begley's 110% work ethic, 100% communication and 100% versatility, among others.

Begley created 12 of the bars after he completed his MBA at the University of Central Florida in 2009 and was searching for jobs in New York. His unique take on the job search got a second life this week when his friend, Eli Langer, posted a photo of the bar on Reddit, where it has received more than 3,000 comments.

"People are either going to love or hate it," Begley told ABCNews.com today. "My focus was to find an organization that would embrace it because if they weren't open to that kind of out-of-the-box thinking, that wouldn't be a company that I would fit in well with anyways."

Begley had already found an organization, the Orlando Magic basketball franchise, that embraced his creativity while in graduate school. The team hired him for a summer internship after receiving a "ResumeBar," which gave Begley all the confidence he needed to try it again.

The sweet approach worked a second time in 2009 as Begley landed a marketing job less than three months after he began his job search, with LeagueApps, a platform that connects adult recreational athletes.

Begley, who also once had his resume delivered along with a pizza, says his brother, Jeremy, designed the label for him and he had it printed at Kinko's. He put the label atop a standard Nestle Crunch bar, making his resume not-so-ordinary for less than $2.50 per bar, he estimates.

"Of course," Begley said when asked if it was worth it. "It was creative and put me ahead [with potential employers] as far as understanding that I was willing to go the extra mile."

Begley now works for a Toronto-based e-commerce entertainment company, a job he found the old-fashioned way.

"I was recruited by someone I used to work with," he said.
