Game of Thrones star Lena Headey has had it rough over the past few months. She’s in the middle of a messy divorce from Peter Loughran that includes allegations of drinking and unfit parenting. Now, the 39-year-old actress says she is broke, and to make sure we know how dire the situation is, Headey is claiming she has “"less than $5 in her bank account" and has been living on credit while taking care of her 2-year-old son.
Headey and Loughran are currently fighting over a $46,000 tax refund check from 2011. That’s a lot of money for a tax refund check, and it’s no surprise both the actress and the Irish musician would be fighting over the funds. According to TMZ, Loughran says half of that money belongs to him and Headey wants to take a $6,000 advance, give Loughran a $6,000 advance and fight over the rest of the money in court. Currently, the judge has thrown out both of these motions, which means the money is just hanging out, for now.
Headey may not be the Game of Thrones actor with the worst problems; regardless, divorce can take an awful toll on a person’s well-being as well as his or her finances. Oddly, Headey should be making a hefty salary as one of the leads in Game of Thrones. Despite this, in the documents, the actress says she’s between paychecks and will be earning money from HBO’s show soon, but needs money to survive before that check comes through, although at least she should have a steady acting gig well into the future. For the sake of her son, I truly hope the couple is able to figure out their finances and finish the divorce on an amicable note, sooner rather than later.
